  • Dr. Darrow,

    Hi Dr. Darrow & Team,

I’m a close friend of Jim and Erin Ferg. I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know that I think your work is amazing. Aside from any ability that comes from what you are doing – you provide hope to the hopeless. There’s no greater gift that you and your team could ever give than that.

Jim and Erin are really amazing people. I’m sure you’ve already noticed that they are probably different somehow than the people you usually see. Not to take anything from anyone else and I understand I’m biased but….. They are special and have qualities that are rare. This makes them both the best candidates for this trial.

If I could give you a glimpse into who they are as people – because they’d never tell you: they are the most hard working, giving and loving people you will ever meet. They push and drive each other and have never let Jim’s accident and injury hinder their ability to do and be good humans – most days. No one is perfect. There’ve been bumps. A time of coming to terms and accepting what has been lost – no doubt. But, if you want to see what this trial is really capable of, these are the people to make it happen. They will do everything you ask and with 210%.

So you understand, their whole mindset behind participating in this trial was for those who come next. The idea that if this is successful it will give hope to those sitting in an ICU somewhere being told “here’s your wheelchair, go live your new paralyzed life, there’s nothing we can do for you.” They, of course, hope that it improves their quality of life in some way but the root reason they decided to do this is that they figured they owed it to those that will have the unfortunate and life changing experience of being a complete. They knew they had what it takes to do your trial justice. They know there’s no guarantees. Yet, they still came and trusted you to use them for something good for others going forward. That’s who they are. Truly selfless.

I want to thank you. From the bottom of my heart and for the hearts and lives of Jim, Erin and their girls. You already know what this is like for those going through it by what they tell you. As you know, just like me, there’s no way to really know and understand unless you are living it. I’ve watched them for almost 6 years endure this, survive it, live it and overcome it physically, mentally, emotionally and most of all spiritually – most days. I’m not sure what your belief system is but there’s no doubt in my mind that you are doing God’s work. May he bless you and your team as you continue to provide hope and healing to those who desperately need it.

    With Love and Respect,
    Chris
